Located at the centre of Madhya Pradesh, Jabalpur is one of the most important cities in the state, and gets its name from the great 'Jabali Rishi'. The holy 'Narmada' river flows through district and is the major drinking water source for the region. A multipurpose 'Bargi Dam' project on this river has been constructed. Many major tributaries of the Narmada like Hiran, Gour, Ken and Sone also flow in this area. Jabalpur is an important divisional headquarter, snugly embracing the tropic of cancer, endowed with bountiful mineral, forest and agriculture resources. It is the nodal point for many tourist destinations National Park Kanha, Pench and Bandhavgarh, Fossil National Park Mandla as well as Pachmarhi and Amarkantak. Jabalpur is well connected with Jaipur, Varansi, Bhopal , Raipur and Nagpur through the NH-7 (Varansi-Kanyakumari), NH-12 (Jabalpur-Jaipur) & NH-12A (Simga(Raipur)-Jhansi). It is well connected through North South Corridor at Lakhnadon which is 70 Kms away. Jabalpur is Zonal Headquarter of West Central Railway and also a Divisional Headquarter of Railways. It is one of the important stations on the Allahbad- Itarsi section of the Howrah- Mumbai main line. Direct trains are available to Mumbai, Howrah , Delhi , Varanasi , Secunderabad, Patna , Cochin , Chennai, Lukhnow, Rajkot , Surat , Guwahati. Indian Airlines and King Fisher operate daily flights between Delhi and Jabalpur.
